Watch for February’s Snow Moon Tonight – A Stunning Lunar Event

A brilliant full moon will light up the night sky tonight when February’s Snow Moon arrives. This is a fantastic opportunity for stargazers to witness one of the year’s brightest full moons.

When to See February’s Snow Moon

On Wednesday, February 12, 2025, the February Snow Moon will peak at 6:53 a.m. MT/7:53 a.m. CT. But the moon will also be visible for many evenings on Tuesday, February 11, and Thursday, February 13.

These dates are supported by the Old Farmer’s Almanac, which also suggests that the ideal times to watch the moon are immediately following moonrise or just before dawn, when it is at its smallest.

Why Is It Called the Snow Moon?

The name “Snow Moon” comes from Native American, Colonial American, and European traditions. Since February is historically the snowiest month in North America, tribes and early settlers used the term to reflect the harsh winter conditions.

🌕 Hunger Moon – Due to scarce food sources in winter

🌕 Storm Moon – Because of frequent winter storms

What’s Next? The March Worm Moon

The Worm Moon, which occurs on March 14, 2025, will be the next full moon to observe if you are unable to witness the Snow Moon in February. This is the final winter full moon until spring arrives.
