Olivia Munn trichotillomania: Actress Opens Up About Living

Olivia Munn Speaks Out on Trichotillomania

Olivia Munn trichotillomania revelation: The actress says she struggles with the hair-pulling disorder, calling it a serious mental health issue often triggered by stress and online bullying. On June 30, 2025, she revealed the information during an appearance on the Armchair Expert podcast, hosted by Monica Padman and Dax Shepard.

Irresistible impulses to remove hair from the scalp, eyebrows, eyelashes, or other areas of the body are known as trichotillomania, and they frequently result in misery and visible hair loss.

“A Quick Second of Pain… and Immediate Regret”

Munn shared how the condition presents for her:

“It could be hair at the top of your head… There’s a sensation. It’s probably not even real, but I’ll feel like, ‘Oh, this eyelash feels like it’s gonna come out.’ And then when you pull it, there is a quick second of pain. And then there’s a satisfaction and an immediate regret.”

Her candid description sheds light on a disorder many suffer from silently.

 Triggered by Online Scrutiny

Munn attributed the onset of trichotillomania to a painful experience in the public eye. While dating actor Chris Pine in 2009–2010, paparazzi photos of the couple leaving his apartment went viral. The negative online comments that followed were devastating.

“They were like, ‘I think she set this up!’ That began my trichotillomania. That was the very beginning.”

Health Battles: From Cancer to Hysterectomy

Munn’s openness about her health has extended beyond mental wellness. In 2024, she was diagnosed with Luminal B breast cancer, which was present in both breasts. Treatment included:

  • A double mastectomy
  • Hysterectomy (shared in May 2025)

She told Vogue that the hysterectomy was a better alternative than continuing a cancer medication that caused “next-level, debilitating exhaustion.”

“It was the best decision for me because I needed to be present for my family,” Munn said.

Encouraging Public Bravery and Mental Health

Olivia Munn’s decision to talk about trichotillomania adds to the growing conversation around mental health in Hollywood. Her bravery encourages candid conversation, especially on under-discussed illnesses.

Her experience serves as a reminder that people with complex issues are just as much a part of society as everyone else.
