Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max leaks reveal ultra-thin design

Apple will launch the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air alongside the iPhone 17 Pro Max, replacing the Plus model in the lineup. According to a new leak by tipster Majin Bu, the iPhone 17 Air could become Apple’s thinnest iPhone ever.

Leaked hands-on images show a dummy unit of the iPhone 17 Air with a sleek matte back, single rear camera, and a Nexus 6P-style bump. The phone appears to retain familiar elements like volume buttons and the Action Button on the left. It also introduces a new Camera Control button on the right.

How Thin Is It?

The iPhone 17 Air measures around 5.44mm thick, just slightly thicker than the 5.1mm M4 iPad Pro, Apple’s current thinnest device. That makes it thinner than other recent ultrathin concepts like the Tecno Spark Slim (5.75mm) and Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge (5.84mm).

Specs and Display

The iPhone 17 Air will feature a 6.6-inch ProMotion OLED display with ultra-thin bezels, though it won’t rival the iPhone 17 Pro Max in specs. However, some Pro-level features like Ceramic Shield with anti-reflective coating may not make the cut.

The rear will house a single camera, similar to the iPhone 16e, and the front camera may get a bump to 24MP—doubling the 12MP sensor seen in the iPhone 16.

Under the hood, it’s likely to feature an A18 or A19 chip, 8GB of RAM, and Apple’s C1 modem, first seen in the iPhone 16e. The phone will run on iOS 19, offering customizable icon styles and Vision Pro-inspired design elements.

Design Trade-offs

According to Bloomberg and Kuo, Apple’s ultra-slim design required cutting back on features like optical zoom, multiple lenses, and even battery capacity.

Pricing and Release

Apple plans to price the iPhone 17 Air at around $900, placing it between the standard iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Apple will likely announce the full iPhone 17 lineup—comprising the iPhone 17, 17 Air, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max—in September 2025.
