Temporary Relief for Patients
- The previous agreement was set to expire April 15, but both sides have agreed to an extension while they work toward a long-term deal.
- The agreement covers UW Health hospitals, clinics, UnityPoint Health-Meriter, and affiliated providers in Wisconsin.

Conflict Regarding Payment Rates
After disputes over conditions of payment, the two firms’ negotiations came to a standstill:
- According to UW Health, Anthem’s suggested reimbursement rates are less than what other Wisconsin hospitals receive.
- Anthem contends that UW Health’s rate increase requests are out of proportion to the rate of inflation in healthcare expenses.
In order to avoid any interruptions, both sides have expressed their willingness to come to a multi-year agreement.
What Comes Next?
Prior to this, patients were informed that they may lose their in-network coverage. Even while the extension offers short-term respite, if a permanent agreement isn’t achieved by July 1, uncertainty will persist.
