Al Trautwig death: Legendary MSG broadcaster dies at 68.

Trautwig became a household name through his decades of work with MSG Network. He covered the New York Knicks, Rangers, Yankees, and other major sporting events, including 16 Olympic Games for NBC, ABC, and CBS. His contributions extended beyond television, as he mentored young broadcasters and even taught at Adelphi University after retiring.

A New York Voice That Focused on Sports

After starting his career at MSG in 1989, Trautwig went on to earn several honors, including four national Emmys, 28 New York Emmys, and a New York State Sportscaster of the Year Award. Many people also remember him from the classic sports film “Cool Runnings.”

The sports world is mourning his loss. MSG Network called him a “staple” of their coverage, while Yankees broadcaster Michael Kay described him as “smooth, unflappable,” and “meant to be on the air.”
